Volkswagen R presented its flagships - the R models - at the Speedmachine Festival in Silverstone from 25-27 May. Event-goers had the unique opportunity to experience the iconic track with an adrenaline-pumping passenger ride in the award-winning Golf R alongside a professional racing driver.
Volkswagen R is the inspiration for the Polo R Supercar, which was driven by titleholder Johan Kristoffersson and motorsport legend Petter Solberg at the Cooper Tires World Rallycross of Great Britain in Silverstone. At the fourth round of the 2018 season Kristoffersson achieved victory number three of the season.
Besides WRX started this weekend in Silverstone ARX. Tanner Foust (USA) and Scott Speed (USA) dominated round one of the new Americas Rallycross Series (ARX). At the wheel of a Volkswagen Beetle, run by the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team, they made a dream start to the new era of American Rallycross in Silverstone (Great Britain). The season consists of a further three events in North America.
Attendees had also the chance to get a racer’s eye-view of the famed Silverstone national circuit from the passenger seat of a Golf R, which packs a huge 310PS and 400Nm of torque to reach 0-62mph in just 4.6secs. This is achieved through its use of race-bred technology, including a 7-speed dual-clutch (DSG) gearbox, 4MOTION four-wheel drive and pioneering launch control start.“Volkswagen R is excited to be a key partner in the Speedmachine festival,” commented Executive Director for Volkswagen R, Jost Capito.
Furthermore Volkswagen R sponsored the forthcoming final of the DiRT World Championships, which took place on Saturday 26th May at Silverstone as part of Speedmachine. The six fastest DiRT 4 players worldwide competed against each other and drove the Volkswagen Polo R Supercar in the final. “E-Gaming is an important and continuously growing field for the automotive industry and Volkswagen R is thrilled to be the partner of the Dirt 4 championship at Speedmachine” commented Jost Capito, Executive Director Volkswagen R.
